Fun music lover's merchandise

I have always been a music lover, so I'm always on the lookout for unique, original musical t-shirts. One of my favorites is by a fun store called Musicall, is a cool graphic with the word music, in the shape of a heart. I love that it's simple, clever and artistic. If you are a musician or music lover, you'll appreciate this artistic graphic design. This online store offers a variety of clothing and gifts, including this cute, women's cap sleeve t-shirt. There is also a striking light blue on black shirt which I love. I think this would be excellent to wear to my next gig, if I were in a band. Of course, since I have no musical talent, I might just get one to wear to the next concert that I go to.

Here's another fun t-shirt for the musician in your life...or get one for yourself, just to make your friends laugh. The description of this shirt says it all...
"Danger! Touching the Instrument May Result In Severe Bodily Injury. OSHA requires signs to warn of impending danger. Others need to be warned that touching your precious instrument may cause them harm." It's funny and clever and will make people think. These cool shirts are available for lots of different instruments...so if you know someone who plays the french horn, the piano, the bass...or almost any instrument, you can find a great gift for them. Musicians aren't the only ones who will enjoy the clothing, gifts and merchandise from this funky store, Musicall, It's "A store created by musicians for musicians and others who enjoy music!" If you're looking for something original, there is a lot of cool, humorous artwork in this store.

Is there a speech therapist in your life?

Is there a speech therapist in your life? If you're one of the many people dealing with Developmental Disorders such as PDD, Aspergers, Autism, stroke recovery and more, you've probably worked with a speech therapist.
Speech therapists work with people who can't make speech sounds, or can't make them clearly; those with speech rhythm and fluency problems, people who have trouble understanding and producing language; people with cognitive communication impairments, such as attention, memory, and problem solving disorders; and people who have oral motor problems. From small children to the elderly, they work with people of all ages. They work in schools, hospitals, and private offices. If you are one of the many people who have been helped by a speech therapist, and know how hard they work, you'll appreciate this cute t-shirt from autismshowucare. This cute shirt has a classy, simple design and the words "Speech therapist have a way with words." It is available in a number of colors, with short sleeves or long sleeves.
Autismshowucare.com sells this design and more t-shirts and gifts supporting autism awareness. According to their home page, "We sell and design Autism Awareness T-Shirts and Gifts to help create awareness and educate our communities. Autism is a tough road and it is our job to be a voice for our children. Please take a look at some of our colorful and meaningful Autism Awareness Designs. We have gorgeous looking Autism T-Shirts and Hats. Our Autism Awareness Christmas Ornaments for 2008 are just perfect for Grandma & Grandma. I think this design would make a great Christmas gift or thank you gift that any speech therapist would appreciate. Show them you appreciate their hard work with a cute gift, it's a great way to say thank you.

Time to sleep when we're dead...

Our "new" dog, Comet, (I say new because although we've had him since August, he is the newest of our 3 dogs), keeps waking up very early and having to go out. He whines and barks and generally makes enough noise to wake the neighbors. Since he was kind of "my idea", I feel it is my responsibility to get up with him and take him out. Since he is only about a year old (not positive of his age, he is a shelter dog, we don't know much about "his background"), he still has a lot of puppy energy. Which means he wants to play all the time. And he needs to run and chase things constantly. I don't mean to complain, he is really, really smart, and I love him. It's just hard to see some things at 5:00 am on a Sunday when you could be sleeping for a few more hours. Which is why I was surprised this morning when I took him outside. I was a bit grumpy, and then, as I sat on my front porch, throwing his toy for him to bring back, I listened to the birds and I watched the sun come up, and I saw my neighbor's beautiful maple tree turning one hundred shades of red and orange, and I took a deep breath, and I was glad I was up to see this. I mean, as they say, there will be plenty of time to sleep when we're dead. I'm usually in such a hurry in the morning to get the kids off to school, and to get ready for work, I hardly notice things. It occurred to me today how lucky I am. I have a warm place to live, and people I love, and there is so much beauty all around me. And then I thought, I'm pretty sure God wanted me to get up early and see this sunrise and count my blessings.
And I was happy.

Contest to win a free truck

Okay, so there is a contest going on from my local country music station, 96.3 Star Country. They put 8 people into a truck (well, 4 people each into two Ford trucks). Who ever can stay in the truck the longest, wins the truck. I think they get a bathroom break every 3 hours. Anyway, I thought it sounded kind of hmmm, boring, but I can't explain it, I went to the website and couldn't stop watching. I don't even know why. There are 5 separate cameras, and you can watch the people interact, read, try to get comfortable. I don't know why, but it's interesting to watch. Kind of like that movie "The Truman Show", only these people know they're being watched. Which doesn't explain why one guy sneezed and wiped it all over his shirt. Either bad manors or they don't let them have Kleenex. If you want to check out the 96.3 Star Country Stuck in a Truck Contest, click here.

Green Jobs Now!

Went to a rally today for Green Jobs Now. It's a great idea that makes a lot of sense. Good for the economy and the planet, really the way of the future!
But they said it best...
"

On Saturday, September 27, we're launching a national mobilization to say, "I'm ready for the green economy." We are ready to tackle the climate crisis by building a green economy strong enough to lift people out of poverty.

Green Jobs Now is a National Day of Action that will empower everyday people to stage hundreds of grassroots events throughout the country. We will have a special focus on low-income communities, communities of color and indigenous people. This will send a message to our leaders that, when it comes to creating green jobs for a more sustainable economy, PEOPLE ARE READY!

Right now, there are millions of people ready to work and countless jobs to be done that will strengthen our economy at home. There are thousands of buildings that need to be weatherized, solar panels to be installed, and wind turbines to be erected. There are communities that need local and sustainable food and people ready to farm the crops. There are public transit systems and smart electricity grids in need of engineers and electricians. Americans are ready to build the new economy. It's time to invest in saving the planet and the people. It's time for green jobs now!

~ Van Jones and the Green Jobs Now Team"

You should really check out their website for ideas and ways to get involved!

Wear your politics on your sleeve...

In Pennsylvania, it's now okay for people who are voting to wear their political t-shirts and buttons to the polling place. This article talks about the recent ruling. Apparently, the ACLU has received some complaints. But really, as long as they're not campaigning, or pushing their views on anyone, shouldn't they be allowed to wear whatever they like? Isn't that part of free speech? Is it touchy because your at a polling place...? Don't most people who come to a polling place to vote already have their minds made up? Or would a cool t-shirt make them change their mind?
I know this presidential election has tensions running high, people believe very strongly in their candidates, and I think it's great to be passionate about politics. One great thing about a campaign t-shirt, button or coffee cup is, you can get your opinions known, you can open up a dialog about your political views if you like, or you can just spread the word about what you believe in without getting into the details.
I think voters who show up wearing campaign t-shirts and buttons shouldn't be prevented from voting.
And here's the thing...if you need a campaign button, bumper sticker, yard sign or t-shirt featuring your favorite candidate, you can get yours at my store, www.creativethoughttshirts.com.

Weddings

So, I attended a wedding this weekend, my husband's niece got married. I love weddings, for all the romantic reasons most women love weddings. And as I get older, and now that I'm married, weddings mean different things to me than they used to. I think when I was young and single, I liked them because there was romance in the air, seeing two people commit their lives to each other gave me hope, if they could find each other, then I should be able to find someone, too, right? And, let's be honest, I love a guy in a tux or nice suit. So, eventually I found my husband and trapped him...uh, I mean, we decided to get married. There was the usual planning of the wedding fun...trying on dresses, shopping with my mom and my sister and sister in laws, getting everyone's opinion on everything from the shoe color to napkins. Before I knew it it was my wedding day, one of the best days of my life. It flew by, and it was wonderful. So now, when I go to a wedding, I remember the details of my wedding day, how nervous I was, how the weather was so beautiful, how we danced and danced, and then how exhausted I was when it was all over. I've been married for about fifteen years now. My husband and I have made it through some tough times, as well as good times. We've each lost a parent, we've had two healthy babies together, we've bought a house, changed jobs, the usual milestones in life that you share with a partner. But to be honest, you never really know how you'll react to these things before they happen. You just sort of take a leap of faith and optimism, and luckily, it turns out my husband is a wonderful man after all. I realize now how little I really knew him when we got married. And I appreciate and love him so much more now. After years of seeing people I know go through painful divorces, and remarriages, and all that goes with that... I really enjoy weddings. So these days when I attend a wedding, I see the optimism in the couple getting married, I pray they'll make it, and it renews my memories and my faith in human kind. It's a reason to celebrate, and a reason to thank God for my marriage.
As a side note, I made some new shirts for my Cafepress store, CreativethoughtTshirts.com, mostly they're for bachelorette parties...bridesmaids, mother of the bride, mother of the groom, bride to be, etc. They can be found here.

Peace loving hippie design

Okay, I have to say, I just did a design I really like. This sounds silly, as I'm doing new t-shirt designs all the time, but sometimes I get so caught up in SEO (didn't even know what that was until I started my Cafepress store!), uploading designs, blogging, tracking visitors to the web site, and all the other stuff you just HAVE to do, it seems I never get enough time to do things I WANT to do. (I know, if I could save time in a bottle...) Anyway, here's a design I did last night that I really like. Check it out at my FreshGreenTees.com store.

My Heart will go on...

So,
although my heart is still broken over the Packers losing Brett Favre, I've decided to buck up and face reality. I will always love him, and I will always love the Green Bay Packers (although I'm a little pissed at the management). Anyway, as the song from the Titanic movie says...my heart will go on...
So I've been busy working on my Cafepress t-shirt and gift stores, and will now make a shameless plug for my newest design...Barack Obama and Joe Biden in 2008.
I will be working on more designs, and as the election comes closer, will be putting more on campaign buttons and yard signs, so please check it out.

Squidoo Lenses

I'm not sure if you're familiar with Squidoo, but it's pretty cool and fun. I'm including some links here to Squidoo "lenses" that I've created, check 'em out! Here's one on Barack Obama wear/buttons/ political swag that can all be found online.

This one is all about going green, yes it features my online store FreshGreenTees.com, but there are a lot of resources and articles too, on other great recycling products and hypermilling.

If you're going to New Orleans, I urge you to check out my fun things to do in New Orleans lens. My husband and I attended the annual Jazz and Heritage festival, and it was fabulous. The food there was wonderful, as well.

One Squidoo lens that is close to my heart, is the what toLink do in Madison, Wisconsin lens. As Madison is my hometown, and a great place to live or visit, I'm pretty fond of it.

If you're not familiar with the concept of hypermilling, I urge you to check out my Hypermiling and Smiling lens.

Moment of silence

Okay, so Brett Favre, my beloved Packer quarterback, is now a New York Jet.
I am at a loss. We will now have some silence as we reflect on this tragedy....

Brett Favre going to Tampa Bay?

Can it be true? Is Brett Favre going to play for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers??
Could it be? Check out savebrett.net to sign a petition protesting the decision of the Green Bay Packer management.
And, say a prayer for Brett.

Save my kid's school!?

I live in an idyllic little town called Black Earth, Wisconsin. We're just west of Madison, Wisconsin, a farming community with a lot more to offer. The history of Black Earth is interesting, and the Black Earth Historical Society keeps track of this rich and varied history.
Today, Black Earth (population 1,380), and Mazomanie (just up the road, and in the Wisconsin Heights School District with Black Earth), is a wonderful place to raise a family. The kind of place where you can walk down the street in the summer and get an ice cream cone, walk back and stop to chat with your neighbors who are out in their yard playing with the kids, throwing a ball for their dog. We have a great library, , the largest shoe store in the midwest, there are also some gas stations, churches, and restaurants in the area, including Heiney's Dining and Rookies Food and Spirits. Also, Black Earth Meats offers some wonderful products, including local and organic meats.
There is also the famed Black Earth Creek, renowned for Trout fishing. You can learn more about the Black Earth Creek Watershed here. It's a beautiful area, with lots of rolling hills and prairies including the Black Earth Rettemund Prairie. This is how beautiful it is here...sometimes I see deer behind my house, down by the stream, and as I watch the sunset, I think it's too beautiful to be real, and I am so lucky to live here. It's clean and safe, and filled with good, caring people.
The Mazomanie community also has a lot of things to offer. From art galleries, a local swimming pool, a local farmer's market on Saturday mornings, to a gandydancer festival, parades, and more, there is just too much going on in to list here.
The Wisconsin Heights School District is facing a terrible crisis. There are about 900 students in pre-K through twelfth grade. A combination of the way Wisconsin funds it's schools, and a declining enrollment, have put the families in Black Earth and Mazomanie in a terrible bind. To be honest, the school district is having to cut programs and raise prices on sports and extra curricular activities. My kids attend these schools. They have received a wonderful education so far. They continue to receive excellent teaching, from wonderful qualified teachers, and have had some great learning experiences. The class sizes are ideal for learning, and I know most of the teachers, and am involved in the school district and know that the teachers and administration here really care about the families. It's a wonderful community to live in, and a great place to raise a family.
So, what can be done to help this school district?
ONE: What are you looking for in a hometown? WOuld you like a hometown feel with low taxes, low crime rate, a high quality of life, and a clean, natural place to live just down the road from one of America's top cities to live in? Consider visiting Mazomanie and Black Earth Wisconsin. There are a lot of beautiful houses available, and with the real estate market the way it is, you can get a great deal on a beautiful place to live. Spread the word, Black Earth and Mazomanie are wonderful communities to live in! Black Earth Field Days is celebrated at Veteran's Park in Black Earth August 9, 10, 2008 (and every August), check it out! A parade, fun kid's games, there's something for everyone!
TWO:
There is a group called Vanguard Pride consisting of families in the are who are trying to help our community and school. Please check out their website, they have a lot of good information on their website, and are trying to come up with some great solutions to the financial problems of the school, as well as spread the word of all the great things going on here. Their home page sums it up well "We would like to introduce a unifying concept called "Vanguard Pride", with the tagline; preserving our schools, preserving our community.

Many have reached the conclusion that without a unified sustainability plan, our local schools will be closed in two years.

Many have not yet realized that losing our schools also means losing our community.

Vanguard Pride's near term objective is to sustain quality local schools in the most cost effective manner possible.

Great efforts have been made to analyze costs and cuts have been made to optimize the cost of local education. To the credit of many, the tough task of successful cost cut cutting has been accomplished.

The reality is that we are at a point where we are both out of time and out of the kind of cost cutting ideas that will make a difference in the ultimate outcome.

To maintain confidence in our school district, a plan needs to be in place demonstrating a clear path of how quality schools will be sustained.

This group will take on tasks that support the objective of sustaining quality local schools, as well as provide a conduit for community input.

We will support community pride, as our communities are a place people chose to live: young adults starting out on their own, families raising their families, retirement age adults. We have many multigenerational families in our communities who chose to stay here as well as families who relocate to choose to live in our beautiful rural communities..."
We love our community and our schools, we welcome new people to come and experience life in a small town, with a lot to offer. If you have suggestions for ways to help save our schools, please contact me or post them here.
Thanks for reading, and please visit Black Earth and Mazomanie, Wisconsin, soon! If you know someone looking for a great place to live, please suggest our area!

Creativity

Looking to be inspired? Inspiration is all around us, I think having kids helps inspire me because they see things in such an original way, they think of things I may have never thought of before, and they say what they think. All great qualities!
I have a Wacom tablet that I use for my Cafepress stores (Creativethoughttshirts.com and Freshgreentees.com), and I just love it. I bought the Intuos 3, 6x8, and it's wonderful!!! I need about a month alone with it so I can learn to use it well! Okay, 6 months, but the point is, there aren't enough hours in a day. I just love Corel Painter (came with the Wacom tablet). It's wonderful, and the official magazine is fabulous...has great tutorials (as does the website). Unfortunately, I don't think you can subscribe to the magazine in the U.S., but I pick one up from my local Borders bookstore. It has lots of helpful tips and tricks, and a lot of good stuff that you may have forgotten from art school. (Or never learned). The latest issue shows how to turn photos into sketches, very cool.
Some of my other favorite inspirational places include:

Chapter19.com/inspiration

The ocean (haven't been there too often, but found it very inspirational).
Used book stores...love to look at the art books, both graphic design and fine art books.
The Artist Network

Deviant art - very cool, check it out!

KT Tunstall site...very cool website, I wish I knew how to make a website like this!

Webby awards...cool websites!
Artocracy

This one I can't explain, it takes a while to load, but it's worth it. Try it!

Alright, I'm getting really tired...I can see I'm going to have to continue this list tomorrow, and the next day, and the next day, because inspirational sites are abundant, like my bookmarks...
Goodnight!

Madison Hybridfest

So, check this out. In Madison Wisconsin this weekend they're having "Madison Hybridfest". The best hypermilers from across the country will compete in the 2008 Hybridfest mpg challenge, to see how many miles they can get with their hybrids. Hybridfest is about more than just gas mileage. It's also a place for discussion about air quality, climate change, and the need for sustainable transportation. Environmental groups, Car dealers, and many more groups will be on hand to help make Hybridfest a success.

Be sure to check out Hybridfest the weekend of July 19, 2008 in the Dane County Fair at the Alliant Energy Center, Madison Wisconsin. If you like hypermiling, check out some of these hypermiling shirts and gifts from my store, FreshGreenTees.com. I've got a whole section on hypermiling in my store, these are some of my favorites. If you're not sure what hypermiling is all about, you can find out more information here at hypermiling.com. It's actually super fun to see how many miles you can get per gallon of gas. It also helps to keep you making conscious decisions about your driving. If you'd like more information and links about hypermiling, you can check out my Squidoo lens here. Thanks, and drive slowly and safely!

Drinking... A LOVE Story?

I came across this book by Caroline Knapp, called Drinking, A Love Story I was intrigued by the title...I had to know more. So, I checked the book out from the library and began to read. I couldn't stop reading, the words seemed to jump off the page as if they were written for me and about me. Caroline Knapp went through a painful alcoholic journey, and shared it in this moving memoir. One theme that seems to run through out the book, is a theme of women feeling self loathing or self hatred. This, too resonates with me. I don't know why, but I never feel good enough...as a parent, a wife, a child, a friend, an employee. And drinking was a way to numb myself and not have to deal with these feelings. Although I haven't had any alcohol in six years, the smell of beer or wine still tempts me, and there are times when I have nightmares that someone has sneaked liquor into my soda and tricked me into drinking alcohol, and all I have worked for is lost. I am still not as self aware as I would like to be. My addictions now have gravitated towards food, although the self numbing and self medicating of food doesn't seem as satisfying to me as the buzz on a Friday night, it is still some sort of comfort seeking thing. In my mind, I know this. I know I shouldn't shove four Snickers bars down my throat and then have a bowl of ice cream. I know it will make me sick. But I still do it anyway. Is this any healthier than drinking? I don't know. I thought I was doing so well, but in reading this book, it has made me think about it. I am going to have to do some self analysis on why I dislike myself so much. The vicious cycle of feeling fat and unattractive, so I binge on fattening foods and then feel horrible about myself, is getting pretty old. I'm in my 40's now, you'd think I would have more of a handle on who exactly I am, but I can't seem to find anything concrete. I can't say I have very strong opinions about anything. I don't seem to be able to voice my concerns in a crowd. I can't stand up for myself, because I don't know what I believe in. Is this a spiritual crisis? Would it help if I exercised or meditated on a regular basis? I'm sure it wouldn't hurt. Perhaps meditation or prayer is the answer. Perhaps there isn;t any one answer...but the journey of self discovery that we all must take.
Anyway, I would highly suggest this book to anyone who is an alcoholic, or knows an alcoholic and wonders how they got that way, or what the hell they're thinking as they're killing themselves.
A very sad side note to this is that as I was reading this book, I was so moved by Caroline Knapp, that I wanted to email her and tell me how moved I was by her book. How it really touched me and gave me a lot to think about. So, I googled her to find out more about her, and I found out that she had passed away a few years ago from lung cancer. It made me truly, truly sad.

Politics and creativity

So, I really thought my Barack Obama Obumpa fist pump t-shirt would be a big seller at my t-shirt store. I mean, I thought the design was clever, and the play on Obama's name seemed clever, but perhaps my son is right. Perhaps it is a lame pun. What do you think?
It's so hard for me to combine creativity with politics. I mean sure, there's the name of the candidate, and the symbols, (American flag, peace sign, etc.), but how far can you really stray from the status quo? Then I see some incredibly unique designs, and I wish I had created them! My 2 most unique designs for Obama are can be found here.. and here.
But even I admit I need to make something more unique and exciting. And when trying to come up with a creative thought, it just seems different with a political theme. I get caught up in the red, white and blue, and the ordinary, expected things. I wish I could erase every political design I've ever seen, I think they've influenced me over the years. It's kind of like really bad tv commercials, you seem to remember them, so I guess they've done their job.
And yet, my favorite way to get inspired to come up with new, creative ideas for my t-shirts, is to go to the used book store, and spend hours there looking through the art books. While I usually spend some money there, the point is to find things that inspire me, not to copy other artists' ideas. It's great because there is so much original art in the world, it makes me think that I can come up with something original too. If I put blinders on. But then, so much of the outside world is great for inspiration, I guess it would just be nice to have a filter. I do like my yoga t-shirts though, especially this one.
Please check out my t-shirt and gift store, any feedback is greatly appreciated.
And if you have any ideas on how you get inspired, or what helps you be creative, I'd love to hear them!

Barack Obama and the Fist pump

Barack Obama and his wife, Michelle gave each other a celebratory fist pump, (fist pump, fist bump, knuckle touch, whatever you want to call it). I didn't think too much of it, but the news had a field day with this. They showed it over and over, in slow motion, had people commenting on it, decided that this was just another example of how Obama is in touch with the younger generation, how Barack Obama is hip and cool. Not to mention, way younger than John McCain. My husband laughed and said "are they kidding? I've had an old white guy from Indiana doing the fist pump at me for 3 years, at work". I laughed. SO then I thought, does this really show that Barack Obama is young and hip, or does it just show that the media is in love with him? I'm not sure, but they were making such a big deal out of the whole bumping knuckles thing...I just had to come up with a shirt for my online shirt store. It had to be original, had to be funny...what to do, what to do? Finally I came up with this...I call it Barack Obumpa. I thought it was kind of cute and clever, then my 11 year old walked by and said "that's kind of a lame pun." So, now I'm not so sure. I old him it will probably catch on like wildfire, but he may be right. What do you think?

Barack Obama loves Hillary Clinton?

Well, Hillary is finished with her campaign. Or is she? Could it be possible that Hillary Clinton will be chosen to be Barack Obama's vice presidential running mate? I find it hard to believe that after all that has happened in her hard fought campaign, she would be content to be vice president. Actually, I think Hillary would like to be vice president, because she is a powerful woman who wants to be as powerful as she can be. What about Barack Obama supporters? Would they embrace Hillary after all that has happened on the campaign trail? I admit, she has been very good about playing fair, and I think she is incredibly intelligent, but would Barack Obama even want her around? Does Obama himself pick the running mate, or is it the Democratic party? I'm not sure how that works, it will certainly be interesting to see what happens. One thing is for sure, it's a history making political season!
And don't forget to get your Barack Obama campaign buttons, yard signs, posters, coffee mugs, and more at my online t-shirt and gift shop, www.cafepress.com/creativethought.

What is this hold Pokemon has on my son?

Sometimes I wonder, what is it about Pokemon that my son finds so fascinating? He and his friends can play for hours, with the cards, the video games, their imaginations...the characters have different attributes, strengths, health points and more. I can't keep it all straight. I try to play and I just glaze over after about 5 minutes. I can't keep all the information straight, and I would prefer to going back to playing Candyland. Does this make me a bad mom? I don't know. Do any moms get this game and play it with their kids? I've seen a few girls into Pokemon, at the Pokemon regional championship in Wisconsin Dells this past year, there were probably 10-20% girls, (and women), the rest were boys (and men). Is it something with the way our minds work? I know men and women are genetically very different, I've seen it in my own kids. Pokemon "battles" bring out something in my son...is it like 30 years ago when my brothers played Cowboys and Indians, (which no one can play anymore, because like everything else, it isn't politically correct). So my brothers would play cowboys and indians, and my sister and I would play "ranch" where we put our Barbie dolls (don't get me started on Barbies and girls sense of self worth...) onto my sister's horse statues and pretended they lived on a ranch.
My sister was always "Pam" (popular girl's name, for sure).
Now, years later, as grown women, my sister has her own horse, and I have low self esteem. Coincidence? I think not! So, my son loves Pokemon, even though I know it's marketing and big companies trying to get our money...I can't help but marvel at how much joy he gets from playing the game with his friends. And it helps him work on his social skills, that's for sure. Also, he reads the cards and memorizes the facts and statistics, so it can't be all bad, right?
Right?
Oh, as always, check out my CafePress stores, CreativethoughtTshirts.com, and FreshGreenTees.com. I'm adding lots of new designs, and really trying to get things going. My best seller is this Barack Obama yard sign, so it will be interesting to see how the whole presidential nomination and election shapes up!

If my dog had a credit card...

I was at a Birthday party yesterday, and we were talking about how the credit card companies inundate you with offers when you are between the ages of 18 and 24. It's like they know you're going to go into debt over spending and charging things you don't really need and can't really afford. And then you'll be paying them interest for 100 years. My sister in law said that she thought it would be pretty easy to get a credit card for your dog. So last night as I was falling asleep, all I could think about was what would my pets charge if they could? I wonder if they would surprise me...
I think Skippy, my little rat terrier mix mutt rescue dog would go nuts charging dog treats, toys, big, comfortable furniture and warm, soft blankets. I think my old sheltie, Fletcher, would probably just charge food, he seems pretty easy to please, I can't think of anything else he would want. My pushy cat, Milo, would charge a lot of catnip, cat toys, cat treats, cat trees, littleLink fake mice, (maybe some real mice), and some high quality cat food. My shy, quiet cat, Minnie would probably not charge anything. She never asks for much, just a warm bed and some food occasionally. Who knows, maybe they would surprise me. I know Milo loves to bird watch, would he order some fancy bird feeders and have someone install them outside the kitchen window? Would the pets leave and find new owners if they could? I like to think we treat them pretty well, and I think they're happy here. But who really knows what they're thinking? It's funny how they each have their own personalities, and we give them human descriptions, as if they were humans. The dog whisperer (that Cesar guy on tv) would probably not approve.
Anyway, check out my newest custom t-shirt and gift shop, (freshgreentees.com), it's all about going green and reducing your carbon footprint. I've been so busy working on my original t-shirt shop, creativethought.com, that I haven't had much time for blogging!

Too tired for blogging...

Too damn tired for blogging. so I've decided to just list things that I can't quite wrap my brain around. Sometimes, if I concentrate really hard, these things make sense to me, but for the most part, I can't comprehend...
Why Paris Hilton is famous...why people think the Three Stooges were funny...Why the middle class gets so ripped off as far as taxes... How does oil get turned into gasoline...html and cgi coding stuff....How do birds know where to migrate to, (or butterflies for that matter)... Can you or can't you teach an old dog new tricks? Why do people not bother to vote, and then complain about the state of politics...How come hot lunch at school always sucks... why do people say "I don't mean to gossip..." or "I don't mean to offend you..." and then go ahead and do it anyway... If they can put a man on the moon, couldn't they invent a more comfortable mammography... Daylight savings time... it costs more to make a penny than a penny is worth, why are they still making them (are they still making them?)... Bullies... kid bullies and grown up bullies... electricity...algebra...lots of stuff...
please check out my new store, which is just getting going!

Eating Gelato

Well,
I haven't posted in a while because I've been really busy. Busy with what you ask? I'm glad you asked...mostly I've been busy with working on my newest t-shirt designs for my t-shirt and gift store CreativeThoughtT-Shirts and Gifts, LLC.
I've got some new political t-shirts and yard signs, hopefully they'll start selling. It's very interesting not knowing if Barack Obama or Hillary Clinton will win the Democratic nomination.
I just did a new John McCain design that I really like, the shirt has kinLinkd of a distressed look to it.
Mostly, thought, I've been eating a lot of gelato. If you've had gelato, you know how good it is. If you haven't had the real thing, you've got to try it! It's kind of like ice cream, but the flavor is really concentrated. I found this place in Middleton, Wisconsin called Villa Dolce and they have the most wonderful gelato in the world. Sure, it's the only time I've ever had it, but I think it's fabulous and I'm telling everyone to go there and try some. They have amazing flavors like donatella · cappuccino · caramel · coconut · stracciatella · hazelnut · malaga · pistachio sicilia · roasted almond · tartufo al bacio · tiramisu · vanilla · banana · forest berries · mango · pineapple · raspberry · strawberry · limoncello · pink grapefruit · ginger · mint · peanut · amadeus · cherry · peach-mango · yougurt · green apple · chocolate · green tea · cheesecake. And they're happy to let you try as many flavors as you'd like before you buy. They also have a fabulous menu, I haven't had the food there, but I've heard rave reviews from friends. But the main reason I am telling people to support this restaurant is that it is independently owned, it's not a big chain operation, although it might be a franchise, I'm not really sure. The owners are very nice and helpful, and they really appreciate your business. No, I don't know them personally. No, they did not pay me to write this. I'm just a big fan, and want everyone to try this gelato and be happy. I think it could make the world a better place.

Later....

Carson Daly?

Am I the only one who doesn't get Carson Daly?
Not sure why he's on tv...he seems nice enough, but I can't believe he still has a talk show.
He seems to talk over people...not be very, uh, confident, and generally just a butt kisser who looks good, so someone gave him a tv show.
Of course, I don't understand how "The View" stays on the air, either...talk about people talking all over each other! So annoying. I liked it okay when it first started, but it has seriously deteriorated to crap. Except for Elizabeth Hasselbeck, (I think that's how you spell her name). It's nice to see a young person with the courage of their convictions. Especially now when most people just take the easy route and say what's popular, not what they believe in. Conan O'Brian? Yeah, I like him. He's funny. His self deprication humor is funny and believable. I really like the Steven Colbert show, now there's a funny guy with funny writers!
That's all I have to say about the talks shows...for now.

Eat, Pray, Question Catholicism?

So, I've been reading this book called Eat, Pray, Love by Elizabeth Gilbert. It is such a great book. Wonderful really. I had actually started to read it about 3 times, and never got very far, then for my birthday in November, a good friend gave me the book because she thought I would love it. I still couldn't get very far. Then, in February, another good friend asked me if I had read the book. She said it made her think of me. So, at this point, I'm thinking I really should read this book. Obviously, I'm meant to read this book. I start reading the book again. Again, the first chapter does nothing for me, but I press on. By about the fourth chapter, I can't put this book down. I find myself compelled to take the book everywhere. If my kids have a dentist appointment, I take the book in case I get fifteen minutes to myself to read. Then, sometimes at night I re-read certain pages, to make sure I don't miss anything. I dog ear some pages, which I haven't done for a long time. I think to myself I should get a highlighter pen and highlight some of these things. I think this is a book I will buy for my brother. Now, I'm two thirds of the way done with the book. I was so enjoying the part where the author was in India, meditating and doing yoga. I think all of the talk of enlightenment is fascinating. Then I get to a part in the book where the author talks of different religions, and how they relate to yoga and meditation. So I Google yoga and catholicism. Now, I'm shocked. I have only read a few of the entries that come up on Google, but most seem to say that yoga and Catholicism don't mix (to put it mildly). Yoga and believing in enlightenment are blasphemy to the Catholic God. The idea of the father, son and holy ghost does not jive with the idea of "we are all connected as one". I am so confused and saddened. I admit, I went to Catholic school, I was raised a Catholic. I like the Catholic Church, I find comfort in the rituals and going to mass. I also admit, I've taken yoga classes and really liked them. I never really heard anything about enlightenment or any kind of religious reference in any yoga class that I've taken. So, I have to finish the book, I know that. But now I'm feeling slightly confused. I have not been having a "crisis of faith" that I know of, (or maybe I've been having one, just not admitting it), but certainly when a person gets to a certain age (mid 40s for me), it seems there are questions about mortality and spirituality that need more attention and reflection. I am just looking for something, not proof really, a relationship with God? A reinforcement in my faith and that what I believe in is correct, (but isn't that what faith is...believing in something without proof?). Maybe someone could explain to me how I can combine my Catholic faith with a belief in a universal conciousness? Is this possible? I don't know. I know my spiritual journey is really gearing up, and I know I can't turn my back on my Catholic faith and my believe in God and Jesus, and I'm a bit disappointed in myself for even questioning (is it wrong for me to question? Will God be mad at me?). I know I haven't been the best Catholic, but I've tried to be a good person. I guess there are more questions than answers at this point, and like everyone else, I need to search for my own answers, and figure out what it is that I believe in.
So, here is one of the many yoga t-shirt designs I have for sale on my t-shirt and gift shop. And, yes, I have some Catholic designs available at my store also! www.CreativeThoughtTShirts.com. One of my favorite one is "It's Cool To Be Catholic. Check out my designs if you're looking for some gifts, t-shirts or sweatshirts.
Thanks.

Great foohttp://www.blogger.com/img/gl.link.gifd in New Orleans!

There is so much good food in the New Orleans area, we couldn't possible sample it all on our short visit. The Jazz and Heritage Festival itself is a great place for not only music, but local food. It's a great place to get a sampling of Cajun, creole, everything!! If you go, try the Seafood Monica, Jambalaya, a po boy sandwich, crawfish bread (my personal favorite!), and of course you have to have some crawfish!
The restaurants in New Orleans welcome your business! We went to Emeril's Delmonico, his original restaurant, and it was very nice. Pretty fancy and good food, the bathrooms alone are worth the visit...they're beautiful!
My favorite restaurant of all was K-Paul's Kitchen. We did not have a reservation, and the hosts' were very accomodating! I tasted flavors I never knew existed before! They had muffins of all dif. flavors that just melted in my mouth! Everything we had was fabulous, The fish was delicious, the pasta devine, the salad, fresh and original. I would say this was the best meal I have ever eaten in my life. We even walked back to peek in the kitchen, and (even though they were very, very busy), the cooks welcomed us, told us to come in and let us take a photo with them. I have never felt so welcome in any restaurant, let alone a busy one on a Friday night! I really can't say enough about this place, I was blown away!!!
The other thing I had for the first time while in New Orleans, was a Beneit. I think that's how you spell it. They were SO fabulous, I made my husband go back and get more to take to the hotel. We found them in a little place right on Bourbon street, where they had live outdoor music playing. They also have them at the Cafe du Monde near the French Market. I was so pleased to find a box of mix from Cafe' du Monde at my local World Market, and I made them, and they are almost as good as they were down there. They're kind of like square, deep fried donuts, really fluffy, crunchy on the outside and covered in powdered sugar. My mouth waters just thinking about them!
We ate at a few other places along Bourbon Street. It was all pretty good. Bourbon Street is really a party area, and the farther down you go on Bourbon, the more raunchy it gets. There's a Larry Flint place, and a few "strip clubs" way down, and we saw a lot of women hanging around outside of those, flashing their goods to get people to come in. Not really family oriented, but during the day it was fun to look around.

When we were in New Orleans, we had a hard time deciding what to do, there was just so much to chose from. One thing we did was go to a cathedral downtown (beautiful), they had a display of some mosaics that had previously only been seen at the Vatican. It was beautiful! I'm sure it's probably back at the Vatican, but if you ever get the chance, you should check it out. We also did a lot of walking, and there were some really cool art shops just a few blocks off of Bourbon Street, with everything from original paintings and sculptures, to shops selling reasonably priced prints. Some very cool shops, and again, the shop owners were very glad to see us.
One night after dinner we took a cab to a casino near the river. I'm not much of a gambler, but I'm really glad I went, just because it was such a spectacular site! It was really, really, beautiful! I've been to casinos before, but this was just so cool. They had a jazz band going around doing that whole jazz funeral thing...it was neat.
We spend our last day down by the French Market, looking for souvenirs. This was the place to go. Good shops, again, great food, and a lot of places to buy inexpensive souvenirs.
It was really, really hot when we went. But we had a great time!
The Jazz and Heritage Fest itself was incredible! I heard some of the best music ever. We saw Marcia Ball, fabulous! Eddie Bo, Tab Beniot, the Sub Dudes, all WONDERFUL! I can't even remember all the musicians there. I know we didn't get to see everyone we wanted to. I would definately go to Jazz fest all three days (or both weekends), if I could. And plan out who you want to see. And take a hat and some sunscreen! The Jazz Fest seemed to be a really good place for families or singles, just a real mix. Everyone was friendly and having fun. There were booths set up everywhere with food, t-shirts, souvenirs! Be sure to wear some good walking shoes, you will do a lot of walking in New Orleans! And of course, you have to take the Trolley! Our hotel, the Maison St. Charles, on St. Charles, was a great place to stay. The trolley usually runs right down St. Charles in front of there, but it wasn't operating due to the damage caused by the hurricane. Most of the other trolleys were working, though, so you really should take one. To get to the fest, we took a trolley ($1.25 I think) right to the park where the fest was from the main street. Some people were paying $10. to take a shuttle bus! Anyway, our hotel had a nice free breakfast by the pool every morning! And the pool was small, but good, they had a whirlpool as well. The courtyards at the hotel were nice to sit out at. The people at the hotel were SO NICE and helpful! Rooms were older, but clean and charming. I would stay there again! Did I mention it's right across the street from Emeril's Delmonico restaurant?
I wish I could remember everything else we did and saw, it was a very busy vacation! I would recommend going to New Orleans to anyone looking for a vacation. Especially if you love food and music! On the last note, a was a bit worried about safety, but we found as long as we stayed in main tourist areas, we were fine. So, just use common sense and you should be fine!
Remember...where comfortable walking shoes!!
Check out one of my New Orleans t-shirt designs here

And of course, I must mention the best radio station ever...because we won the fabulous trip to New Orleans from my fav and yours... 1055. Triple M, Madison Wisconsin...it's about the music!

A cool idea!

Well,
this weekend I went to see Martina McBride in concert. It was incredible! She puts on an incredible show, and she has a wonderful voice. If you ever have the chance to see her in concert, I highly recommend it!
Well, I am starting a Weight Watchers online program today. My goal is to lose 20 pounds, we'll see how it goes. I'm not super motivated, but hopefully that will change. Not sure how, but I need to find some motivation! Wish me luck!

On another note, I came across this fabulous site with beautiful tile murals...you must check it out! I really can't explain it, but if you are planning on doing any remodeling or decorating, this could be just what you're looking for!
tilemurals">Check out these beautiful tile murals!

And, as always, I encourage you to check out my t-shirt design store. I have a lot of political yard signs, buttons, t-shirts, sweatshirts, onsies, bibs, hats, magnets, and lots more! Don't forget to get your St. Patrick's Day items! Creativethoughttshirts.com

McDonald's-love the fries, hate my thighs

So, the Center for Commercial Free Childhood sent me a great update...see below!

"Thanks to the efforts of CCFC members, McDonald's has ended its controversial report card advertising in Seminole County, Florida. Children in kindergarten through fifth-grade had been receiving their report cards in envelopes adorned with Ronald McDonald promising a free Happy Meal to students with good grades, behavior, or attendance. CCFC was alerted to the advertising by Seminole County parent Susan Pagan and launched a campaign which resulted in nearly 2,000 letters to McDonald's and plenty of bad publicity for the fast food giant. The following is CCFC's statement on the McDonald's decision to end the program.

This is a good day for parents and children in Seminole County and anyone who believes that corporations should not prey on children in schools. We are pleased that McDonald's is listening to parents all over the country who believe that report cards should not be commercialized.

In the absence of needed government regulation to protect schoolchildren from predatory companies like McDonald's, the burden is on parents to be vigilant about exploitative marketing aimed at children. One parent can make a difference. There is no doubt that the Seminole County ads would have continued - and violated McDonald's pledge to stop advertising in elementary schools - had one parent not called attention to the problem. And when that parent was joined by other parents and CCFC members, one of our nation's largest corporations was forced to back down. What we accomplished in Seminole County should put all marketers on notice: advertising has no place in our nation's schools.

Thanks so much to all of you who took the time to write to McDonald's. Those of you who wish to acknowledge McDonald's decision to pull the branded report cards can email Kathleen Pyle, McDonald's director of family and kids marketing, at Kathleen.Pyle@us.mcd.com.

Working together, we can reclaim childhood from corporate marketers.

Support CCFC. We rely on our members because we will not compromise our commitment to children by accepting corporate funding. To make a tax-free contribution, please visit http://www.commercialfreechildhood.org/donate/"

Now, I LOVE McDonald's french fries...fresh, hot, salty...they are one of my favorite things in the whole world! You can tell by the size of my thighs, I like fries!
But, I don't think they should sneak their corporate brainwashing techniques into elementary schools! Or any schools for that matter!

Anyway, good for the Campaign for Commercial Free Childhood, be sure to check out their website.

So, my t-shirt selling biz is going pretty well. I sold my first dog t-shirt! Someone bought a Barack Obama t-shirt for themselves, and a matching one for their dog! Yeah! I think that's pretty cool. I really like designing the t-shirts, coffee mugs, etcetera, but trying to figure out the SEO and marketing stuff is making my brain hurt.
It's really a lot more difficult than I thought. And, as it's January and no more Christmas sales...it's a little discouraging right now, not tons of sales. But I'll keep plugging away. I purchased my own domain name and site, separate from CafePress through cpshops, but linked to my CafePress shop. I can supposedly do a lot more with it, but it's scripted, using Perl program, and I am totally lost trying to figure it out right now. Perhaps I bit off more than I can chew, as they say. Anyway, check out my new site, and feel free to pass the link on to your friends! http://www.creativethoughttshirts.com

Brittney, Elections, campaigning,Cafe Press Store

So,

The campaigns are driving me nuts.
Oh, maybe it's just the press. I'm sick of it all.
Obama, not so impressed with him the more I hear him and see him.
Hillary...way sick of her...not buying it. McCain is my man so far, but I'm still pretty undecided.

Come visit my store on CafePress!

Oh, and Brittany Spears? For Heaven's sake, somebody help her. And not in Hollywood, or on national television. Does she have anyone who really loves her??? If so, could they please help her? It is really sad to see what she's doing to herself.

I will say a prayer for these people and our country.
That's all I can do right now. I'm tired.
